The Serbian Business Registers Agency (SBRA) has taken a major step towards modernizing its company registration process by making online incorporation mandatory. Effective 17 May 2023, companies in Serbia will enjoy a completely electronic incorporation process. This move is aimed at increasing the efficiency of the process and aligning Serbia with international best practices.
The online incorporation process will eliminate the need for physical submission of documents and expensive notarization. Business owners can establish a company using their qualified electronic signature and pay the necessary fees through a payment card or e-banking services. To benefit from this new process, applicants must have an account on the SBRA online platform and a qualified electronic certificate issued by a competent Serbian authority, such as the Serbian Chamber of Commerce or Halcom Certification Body.
To obtain the qualified electronic signature, applicants must be physically present in Serbia, but this can also be done through representatives such as law firms that have accounts with the SBRA and have qualified electronic certificates.
The new system promises to reduce the time needed for the SBRA to incorporate a company, and it makes it easier to modify, amend, or withdraw submitted documents and applications. This added flexibility gives businesses more control over their registration process.
The transition to mandatory online company registration in Serbia marks a significant milestone in the country’s business landscape. It simplifies the incorporation process, saves resources, and makes it more appealing for business owners. The move is also in line with international best practices and demonstrates Serbia’s commitment to modernization and digitalization.
